St Ives Rated as Top Shopping Area in UK

St Ives ranks high for shopping

St Ives has been rated as having one of the top shopping areas in the UK according to The Sun. Thanks to Tate St Ives giving the resort year round appeal and St Ives BID improvements to the town.

St Ives ranked number 42 in the top 50 best shopping areas, ahead of cities such as York, Liverpool and Chester.

Property Advisors Harper Dennis Hobbs looked at 1000 shopping districts across Britain to see how well the stores suited the needs of local shoppers.  It also assessed shop vacancy rate and the number of ‘less desirable’ shops such as pawnbrokers, money lenders and bookmakers.

The #WDYT Digital Influence Index where St Ives ranks 847 out of 1300 British towns and cities considers the town has huge potential for even more success. The index takes into account audience size, message volume and engagement that occur across social media networks.

Polly Bamfield OBE, CEO and founder of Maybe which compiled the index, said ‘With the increasing culture of online shopping, reviews and research, retail is now a 24/7 experience. Social media influences 74% of purchase decisions. Embracing these channels can reap significant benefits for both individual retailers and their combined towns and cities’

It’s not all sunshine in St Ives, however. Retailers face higher rents than many other Cornish towns and, as a result, must find new ways to make more sales.

Exciting times for St Ives. Can it embrace the digital age to help retailers make the most of its popularity as a leading holiday destination?
